Targeted to small and medium sized businesses on a monthly subscription basis, Sage characterizes the product as &quot;an ideal deployment option for businesses that have outgrown their small business accounting solution yet may not have the budget or staff to deploy an on-premise ERP solution'.<br/> <br/> <div> <\/div> <div>This is an ideal time for Sage to be announcing an online ERP solution as Aberdeen's research has found an increased willingness for growing companies to be considering Software as a Service (SaaS) ERP for their ERP deployment. Sage does not necessarily refer to ERP MAS 90 Online as a SaaS solution, but rather as an &quot;online' or &quot;cloud-based' deployment option for its 90 product that enables organizations to scale the product as their needs grow. Still, the benefits of a SaaS ERP deployment are consistent with this deployment method. Both are web-based and delivered on a subscription basis. My report, &quot;SaaS and Cloud ERP Trends, Observations, and Performance 2011', publishing at the end of this month, examines this trend.  Aberdeen's research finds that while only 13&#037; of current ERP deployments in organizations with under &#036;500 million in annual revenue (SMEs) are SaaS (compared to 75&#037; for on-premise), 54&#037; of SMEs would consider SaaS ERP in the future in comparison to 67&#037; for on-premise. Additionally, between 2010 and 2011 the willingness to consider SaaS ERP for all organizations jumped from 37&#037; to 52&#037;, while the willingness to consider an on-premise solution declined from 67&#037; to 65&#037; (Figure 1). So it appears that SaaS ERP is becoming more and more attractive to growing businesses.<\/div> <div> <\/div> <div> <\/div> <div> <\/div> <div>Sage is looking to market to organizations that do not have the budget or staff to implement a traditional on-premise solution. Indeed, these are two of the top reasons that organizations are willing to consider SaaS ERP (Figure 2). Beyond the overall lower cost of a SaaS solution, a key benefit of SaaS ERP is the minimized strain on internal IT departments. This is attractive for organizations that want to focus the resources that would be used to staff an IT department on other essential areas of the organization. Growing businesses can benefit from the efficiencies that ERP provides while making the most of what they have until further resources can be attained. Overall, SMEs can use SaaS ERP to get up and running quickly in order to grow at an enhanced pace.<\/div> <div> <\/div> <div> <\/div> <div> <\/div> <div>Clearly, Sage is targeting a sector that has a true need for SaaS ERP.
